There is on social media this thing of showing the archives of memories. I love it. Sometimes I see a picture and smile. For a moment it all comes back… I know exactly how I was feeling in that minute, what were the struggles of that period of time. And I smile because seeing my younger self, knowing all its fears, insecurities, fights, wonders, traps, illness, beliefs, sorrows, gives me the will to love her more as she was able to love herself that time. I’m proud of my younger self. For being brave, for daring to change, for not giving up, for choosing a different path, for learning to heal to respect her time in this unique life journey, and to love herself fiercely.
People consciously tend to shut the door to the past. They are always having “new beginnings” and “this time will be different” “the past is gone” bla bla bla stories. This happens especially if the past is fulfilled with traumatic and sad experiences. And as much as they try to escape from it the more they are living and reliving the past. Like a vicious cycle. Over and over again.
The thing is that the past is a treasure. Memories are there to help us. Memories are there to learn from them and be able to create different, to change the story. If we learn how to read our book, if we have questions and start questioning (everything), to search for reasons if we dare to be honest with ourselves…then the past is not an enemy but one of the best toolboxes of our lives, for a future with no vicious cycles.
